The portable, always available coach

I have had this book for a few months now and found it’s supported me making some big changes in my worklife and how I get on with people in general. Best way to describe the benefit: I’m able to use the book as a portable always available coach (which helps me find a way to get over issues that have bothered me for years and inspires me to go and do what I really want to do). I’ve recommended this book to friends and teams I have managed, result – an inexpensive way of instigating a development programme professionally and personally. When I look back on when I started using the People Skills Revolution I realise I am now better paid and have started my own (to date) successful business. I’m better able to identify and handle the “arch manipulator”, be more assertive, influence what’s going on and negotiate effectively. Near the end of the book is particularly interesting as I have been inspired to find out what my values are and make the leap and reach for what I used to only dream of.

Accessible, Easy to Read and Makes Sense

The great thing about this book is that it is easy to read and accessible. You can read the whole thing (definitely recommended!) or just use the chapter that is most relevant at that time when you are having problems! It is thoughtful in it’s approach and contains various real life examples which help to illustrate the points. One of the things I like most is the book’s easy style – it feels like you are receiving sound advice from a friend. As well as explaining the theory behind the skills, there are various exercises to help develop these in practice and I believe there is now a handbook too, so I look forward to reading that!

Have you ever felt you are being blocked?

If you are being blocked at work then this is the book for you. If you have been passed over for promotion and not known how to move forward positively, this book will give you the skills to “right that wrong”. I would suggest that you work through the book, highlight any lightbulb moments you encounter, generate a game plan and start to stride forward along the career path of your choice and achieve your goals. I related to a few familiar scenarios whilst reading it – and I truly wish that I had had a copy of the book to hand a good few years ago. If you are just starting on your career ladder, or have merely got stuck on a rung, this book will be equally useful to you. It also works very well on a personal level. I am on my second copy – I had to give my first to a friend whose need was greater than mine at the time!

If you are a manager who wants to improve your business relationships with staff, clients, and other managers alike, then this is a must read.
